Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is the most advanced solid-state joining technology available today, playing a pivotal role in fabricating high-performance Liquid Cold Plates. At our precision engineering hub in Bac Ninh, Vietnam, the FSW process is utilized to join 6000 Series aluminum extrusion layers, creating hermetically sealed internal liquid channels without the need for filler materials. VINACNC's workflow eliminates thermal defects common in traditional welding methods, ensuring micron-level flatness and uniform thermal conductivity across the entire cooling plate surface.

Superior Advantages of FSW in Custom Cold Plate Fabrication

Implementing FSW techniques provides specific technical benefits for liquid cooling systems:

  • Absolute Hermetic Seal: Friction Stir Welding creates joints with mechanical strength equivalent to the base material, ensuring the system withstands high flow pressures without leaking coolant into sensitive electronic components.

     
  • Minimal Thermal Distortion: Since the process is performed at temperatures below the melting point of aluminum, the Cold Plate maintains near-absolute surface flatness. This is critical for optimizing the thermal contact area with CPUs, GPUs, or power modules.

  • Fine Crystalline Structure: The FSW weld features a fine and uniform grain structure, maintaining the thermal conductivity and corrosion resistance of 6061/6063 aluminum alloys while eliminating localized thermal bottlenecks.

  • Surface Roughness Control: Post-weld surfaces are CNC finish-milled to achieve ultra-fine surface roughness, reducing thermal contact resistance (Rth) to the lowest possible level.

Professional Export Packaging and Preservation Process

FSW cooling plate components require strict protection to maintain surface flatness and channel cleanliness. VINACNC implements a rigorous international standard packaging process:

  1. Ultrasonic Cleaning: Thoroughly removes aluminum chips, machining oils, and impurities from internal circulation channels using industrial ultrasonic systems, followed by pure compressed air drying.

  2. Surface Anti-Oxidation: Each Cold Plate is wrapped in protective PE film and placed in specialized VCI anti-rust paper to prevent salt-air humidity impacts during long-duration transit from Vietnam.

  3. Multi-layer Cushioning: Products are placed in shaped foam trays or thick bubble wrap to eliminate mechanical vibration and impact that could compromise precision dimensions.

  4. International Standard Crating: Products are packed in fumigated wooden crates (ISPM 15 standard) or high-grammage reinforced cartons for absolute safety.

  5. Traceability Labeling: Clear labeling displaying part codes, specifications, and barcodes for efficient destination logistics control.
